The horse was given a rating of 133, rated 4 points higher than nearest rivals A Shin Hikari (JPN) and Arrogate (US) who tied both equal second at 129. California Chrome is trained by Art Sherman after a difficult season in 2015 returned to form in 2016 to win the Dubai World Cup making him the leading North American horse in earnings won. A Shin Hikari (JPN) who was rated 3 pounds better than California Chrome by the WTRR has won major races in Hong Kong, France, UK and Japan this year. Arrogate (US) ran the fastest time recorded in the 147 year history of the Saratoga Travers Stakes for his trainer Bob Bafert who is convinced he has the star of the future in his yard. Rated fourth and fifth both with a total 127 is Almanzor (FR) and Winx (AUS)
The mare Winx trained by Chris Waller is rated the best horse is Australia with 11 consecutive wins in top class races on turf, still a long way short of Black Caviars record of 25 straight wins in top class company, but closing in on Phar Laps record of 14.
