The Los Angeles Lakers will end a four-game homestand on Tuesday night against the Chicago Bulls in the lone NBA game of the evening on the schedule. L.A. dropped the first two of the homestand to Philadelphia and Phoenix, but routed the Denver Nuggets 127-109 behind a triple-double from rookie phenom Lonzo Ball. Ball will look to follow up his second triple-double in five games when the Lakers host the Bulls from Staples Center. Ball had 11 points, a career-best 16 rebounds and 11 assists in Sunday’s victory over the Nuggets, but is still looking for some consistency as he’s put up some terrible games early on. Chicago has its own talented rookie in forward Lauri Markkanen but even he can’t save the Bulls season from getting off to a bad start. The Bulls are just 1-7 on the road after opening a four-game trip with a 113-105 loss to the lowly Suns on Sunday. The teams split two meetings last season with power forward Julius Randle collecting 20 rebounds (to match a career high) in the Lakers’ victory.

Markkanen scored a season-high 26 points and also brought down 13 rebounds in the loss to Phoenix and has team-best averages of 15.6 points and eight rebounds. The 7-footer is scoring from all over the floor including knocking down 10 3-pointers over the past three games and is developing as the team’s top scorer much sooner than expected. Shooting guard Zach LaVine (knee) is expected to start practicing this week and is on target to make his club debut in December, which will significantly help the Bulls. Chicago will continue their trip at Utah tomorrow night.

Randle had a terrific performance with 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the victory over Denver and leads the team in shooting percentage at 55.2. Center Brook Lopez, who leads the club with 1.5 blocks per game, is averaging 20 points on 17-of-27 shooting over the past two games including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. The Lakers defense is giving up a lot of points, but they rank 10th in defensive shooting (44.6%) and 2nd defending the three-point line (31.9%). Los Angeles will also play tomorrow night when they travel up to Sacramento.
It’s hard to lay points with this young Lakers team, but the Bulls are simply terrible right now. Ball is slowly getting better and he has more depth around him than Chicago. I’ll take the home team.
