Many sports around the globe have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and horse racing is no different. The Triple Crown calendar has been altered significantly. By now, we should have already seen the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Instead, the Belmont Stakes will be the first leg with the Kentucky Derby happening September 5th, and the Preakness scheduled for October 3rd.
The Belmont Stakes is known as the “Test of the Champion,” because of it’s challenging length. The Kentucky Derby is one and one-quarter miles long, while the Preakness is just one and three-sixteenth miles. The Belmont usually runs at one and one-half miles, but because of the new schedule, will be a shorter race, and run at a mile and an eighth.
The 152nd Belmont Stakes will take place on June 20th at approximately 3:00 ET in Elmont, New York. Below are odds from Bovada Racebook.
