The Houston Texans will look to repeat as AFC South champions this season, but they are the third choice on the Bovada odds board at +325. The Texans made lots of roster changes over the offseason including trading All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. They did replace him with Randall Cobb and Brandin Cooks, but will that be enough?
The two teams ahead of the Texans in the futures book are the Indianapolis Colts (+120) and Tennessee Titans (+170) – two teams on the rise. The Colts improved at the most important position by landing veteran QB Philip Rivers from the L.A. Chargers. They didn’t have a first round draft pick, but gobbled up RB Jonathan Taylor from Wisconsin to compliment Marlon Mack.
AFC South Standings [2019]
AFC | SOUTH | W | L | T |
---|---|---|---|---|
Texans | 10 | 6 | 0 | |
Titans | 9 | 7 | 0 | |
Colts | 7 | 9 | 0 | |
Jaguars | 6 | 10 | 0 |
The Titans will try to pick themselves back up after blowing a big early lead in the AFC Championship Game to the Kansas City Chiefs. This is pretty much the same team as last year and QB Ryen Tannehill, who sparked the team in the second half, is back under center. The schedule is not that difficult outside of the division. They get the Colts in Weeks 10 and 12.
Then we have the Jacksonville Jaguars. You can pretty much lock this team into last place in the division in 2010. They are in full rebuild-mode and QB Gardner Minshew will have to pull a miracle to get this team out of the basement.
Odds to Win AFC South:
Indianapolis Colts +120
Tennessee Titans +170
Houston Texans +325
Jacksonville Jaguars +2500
Season Win Totals:
Indianapolis Colts 8.5 o190
Tennessee Titans 8.5 o145
Houston Texans 7.5 o115
Jacksonville Jaguars 5 u180
Jay’s Season Win Total Best Bet: I’m picking the Colts to win the division (see below), so I really do believe they will go over 8.5 wins, but the juice is too high. If you can get them at 9 and even money, take it. My pick here will be the Texans UNDER 7.5. This team is led by one of the worst coaches in football and he’s not well liked around the locker room. Losing Hopkins will hurt them. I love QB DeShaun Watson, but he could be in for a long season. I’m looking for Houston to be either 1-3 or 0-4 out of the gate. Here is their Week 1-4 schedule: @Kansas City, Baltimore, @Pittsburgh, Minnesota. Ouch.
Jay’s Pick to Win Division: The Colts already have a great defense and added DT DeForest Buckner from the 49ers in the offseason. Adding Rivers immediately improves the offense. They only play one playoff team from last year during Weeks 1-8. That should be plenty of time to build up momentum for Weeks 9-12 when they play the Ravens, Packers and Titans (twice). Take the Colts to win the South at +120.
