NFC South Preview, Betting Odds and Free Picks [2020]

This year’s NFC South will look a whole lot different than before with two future Hall of Fame Quarterbacks battling for division supremacy. The New Orleans Saints are the favorites once again to take the South behind a loaded team and Drew Brees. New Orleans will be the -105 to repeat with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers right behind at +135. The Atlanta Falcons (+750) are almost assured of third place with the rebuilding Carolina Panthers (+2000) bringing up the rear.

New Orleans finished 13-3 in 2019 and only got better in the offseason with some key additions via free agency and the Draft. The schedule gets a little challenging towards the end with three-straight road games in Weeks 12-14 – Denver, Atlanta, Philadelphia – followed by home dates with Kansas City and Minnesota.

The most hyped team in the NFL this year will be the Bucs. Not only did they bring in arguably the best QB in history in Tom Brady, but maybe the best tight end ever as well – Rob Gronkowski. Those two will need to learn a new playbook early as Tampa travels to New Orleans in Week 1 to take on Brees and company. They will host the Saints in the Week 9 Sunday Night Football game.

The Falcons made a lot of moves in the offseason and no longer will have the services of tight end Austin Hooper, RB DeVonta Freeman and LB Vic Beasley. They did bring in Todd Gurley who is looking to get back to being one of the best backs in the game. The schedule is one of the hardest in the league and ends with the Bucs in Weeks 15 and 17 with the Chiefs in between.

Carolina is almost a lock to finish in last place and will be led by first-year head coach Matt Rhule. The team will no longer have Cam Newton, Luke Kuechly or Greg Olsen. Instead, Teddy Bridgewater will be the man under center. The schedule isn’t daunting, but does this team have enough to get out of the basement?

Season Win Totals:
New Orleans Saints 10.5 u120
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9.5 o125
Atlanta Falcons 7.5 o130
Carolina Panthers 5.5 o130

Jay’s Season Win Total Best Bet: The Atlanta Falcons are always a tough team to figure out, but we do know that their defense is terrible. Matt Ryan is a great quarterback, but it’s hard when you’re playing from behind all the time. This team could be 1-3 or 0-4 out of the gate and we already mentioned what the end of the schedule looks like. I think the absolute best this team can do is 7-9. Take the UNDER 7.5 +110.

Jay’s Pick to Win Division: The trendy pick is the Buccaneers, and yes, they will score a lot of points. But, the team to beat is still the New Orleans Saints. This team is actually my choice to win the NFC this year. They will have a fight with Tampa Bay, but will ultimately pull out another division crown.
