We’ve had a nice taste of a potential World Series preview this weekend at Dodger Stadium – awful uniforms aside – and the three-game set between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers concludes on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. The Yankees responded from getting swept at the Oakland A’s earlier in the week by taking the series opener Friday behind five home runs in the 10-2 victory but could only muster five hits on Saturday in the 2-1 setback. New York’s Aaron Judge accounted for the lone run Saturday with a solo homer and is 6-for-12 with a pair of home runs and a double over his last three games. He will be seeing Clayton Kershaw for the first time, who is opposed Sunday by the MLB leader in victories (16), Domingo German. Justin Turner blasted a two-run shot for L.A. Saturday to help the Dodgers improve to 52-17 at home – the best mark in the majors. The Dodgers currently have a two-game lead over both the Yankees and Houston Astros for that all-important home field advantage should they make the Fall Classic for the third year in a row.

German’s long winning streak came to a halt in Oakland on Tuesday when he was tagged for five earned runs over 5.1 innings of a 6-2 loss to the A’s. The long ball has been an issue lately for the 16-game winner after he served-up two more on Tuesday. German has allowed exactly two dingers in each of his last four starts and 14 over his last seven outings. He will be facing the Dodgers for the first time.
The Dodgers have won each of Kershaw’s last seven starts and the All-Star lefty has been getting a ton of run support in the process. L.A. scored a 16-3 over Toronto in Kershaw’s last outing after he allowed all three of those runs in six innings – three solo homers. He has pitched at least six innings in all 22 starts this year and has posted eight consecutive quality starts. Kershaw has allowed a total of two runs in three outings versus the Yankees covering 20 innings.
I’m laying the runline here with the Dodgers despite New York having their best pitcher on the mound. L.A. is 12-1 at home when Kershaw starts and they average 6.92 runs a game in those contests. German has been serving-up too many long balls recently and the Dodgers will take advantage of that in the series finale.
