The San Francisco Giants failed to gain ground on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West yesterday by dropping a 2nd straight game against the Cardinals. Shutout in their previous game on Saturday, the Giants managed to score 5 runs, but Chris Heston couldn’t get out of the 4th inning and surrendered 5 runs in the loss. Now the Giants will turn to Jake Peavy who brings a 4.21 ERA into his 13th start. His last 3 starts have not been much better as he has a 5.50 ERA despite winning two of those. This will be his first start of the year against L.A.
The Dodgers lost a little steam last night in a loss to the Cubs on Sunday Night Baseball as Jake Arrieta threw a no-hitter. The Dodgers had won 5 in a row to increase their lead in the West over the Giants, but came up with zeros last night. The Dodgers offense in general has been a little disappointing this year as they are ranked 18th in runs scored and batting average. Their 6th in home runs, however. Brett Anderson will face the Giants tonight. He’s 8-8 with a respectable 3.36 ERA in 25 starts. This will be his 5th start this year against San Francisco. He is 1-2 with a 4.71 ERA.
The pitching matchup favors the Dodgers tonight and I think they will hit Peavy pretty good.
