The Tampa Bay Rays begin an important 9-game road trip with the first of three in Baltimore tonight. The Rays pulled out a 3-2 over the Royals yesterday to stay within 4.5 games of a Wild Card berth. Overall, Tampa has lost 5 of their last 7 games. Ace Chris Archer will get the ball tonight and he sports an 11-10 record, but 2.88 ERA and 217 strike outs. Lack of run support is the reason behind his near .500 record. Archer is 0-2 in three starts this year against the Orioles.
The Orioles just got swept in Texas to fall to 5.5 games out of the Wild Card. They have lost 10 of their last 11 games overall and are struggling to score runs. In those 10 loses the Orioles have failed to score more than 3 runs in any of those. The bats need to wake up quickly or Baltimore could be out of playoff contention. Wei-Yin Chen will make his 26th start for the Orioles. He’s 8-6 with a 3.17 ERA, but he has allowed 24 home runs. He’s 4-0 in his last 7 starts which includes a 5-2 win over Tampa on July 26th.
The Orioles and just too cold offensively to bet on right now and their going up against an All-Star pitcher in Archer. I’ll take the Rays on the road.
Pick: Rays -120
