Jake Arrieta takes the mound for the Cubs tonight and hopes to avoid a 3-game sweep at the hands of the Dodgers. Chicago has now lost their last 4 games in this West Coast trip after winning 6 in a row. They have only scored 6 runs in those four loses. Arrieta is 16-6 with a 2.22 ERA on the season and has won 5 straight decisions allowing only 2 earned runs in those five wins. This will be his first crack at the Dodgers this year.
The Dodgers had lost 5 games in a row until winning their last 5 after last night’s 5-2 win. They have increased their lead over the Giants in the N.L. West to 3.5 games and now own a better record than the Mets who they might play in the Playoffs. Lefty Alex Wood will try and keep the Dodgers rolling tonight. Since coming over from the Braves he is 2-2 with a 4.34 ERA. His problem has been control. He was walked 14 batters in 29 innings with Los Angeles. He has not faced the Cubs this year.
The Cubs need a win bad and Jake Arrieta is the right man to stop the skid. Chicago should be able to get to Wood and hold off the Dodgers tonight.
