The Seattle Seahawks begin their quest for a third straight Super Bowl appearance when they begin play today in St. Louis. They’re trying to put the Super Bowl loss behind them when they blew at chance at the 1-yard line to win it. Seattle will once again be led on offense by Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch. Seattle acquired TE Jimmy Graham in the offseason to strengthen their red-zone efficiency. He has caught 51 touchdowns in his career. He was traded for Pro-Bowl center Max Unger, so we’ll see how big of a loss that will be. The defensive line will be as intimidating as ever, but the secondary will be the question mark enter the season. Pro Bowl strong safety Cam Chancellor is still holding out and will not play on Sunday. Cornerback Byron Maxwell left Seattle for Philadelphia. It will be up to Richard Sherman to guide this secondary early on until Chancellor decides to play. Dion Bailey, who has 8 interceptions in 77 games, will start for Chancellor.

The St. Louis Rams come in with high hopes and a new quarterback. Nick Foles was traded for Sam Bradford in the offseason and the Rams are hoping he can put up the type of numbers he did two years ago when he threw 27 touchdowns to only 2 interceptions. He has some very good wide receiver threats on the outside. Brian Quick, Tavon Austin, and Kenny Britt will get plenty of looks all year. The Rams defense will be their strong suit this year. They might even have a better defensive line than Seattle led by the free-agent signing of Nick Fairly. They held Lynch in check last year in both games and will probably do the same today and force Wilson to beat them.
I like taking good defenses early in the season and this is no exception. The Rams will be fired up for this one and I think Foles will have a good day against the thin Seattle secondary.
Pick: Rams +4
