The Baltimore Orioles enter tonight’s ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game in desperate need of a win. They begin the night 6.5 games behind the Rangers for the final Wild Card spot in the American League. With only 21 games left, the Orioles need to go on a big streak. They lost to the Royals yesterday 14-6, but have still won 3 of 4. They’ll need to win 3 out of every 4 games from here on out. They scored a 14-8 win on Friday night thanks to 4 homeruns. They are now 4th in the majors with 190 homeruns. The Orioles ERA leader Wei-Yin Chen will get the start tonight and he’ll be tasked to slow down the Royals hot hitting. Chen has not looked good in his last 3 starts giving up 12 runs in only 16 innings including 10 hits against this Royals team on August 26th.
The Royals are just playing out the stretch knowing they already have the A.L. Central wrapped up, but maybe they’re too relaxed. The Blue Jays are now just a couple of games behind them for best record in the American League. Kansas City has dropped 6 of their last 8 and now own the 3rd best record in the majors behind St. Louis and Pittsburgh. They brought out the hitting sticks this weekend, though scoring 22 runs in the last two days. Mike Moustakas had 2 homeruns yesterday and 9 RBI, a franchise record. Johnny Cueto gets the start tonight and he’s been simply awful the last month. He was dominant in early August, but in his last 5 starts he has an ERA over 10.00 and has lost all of them. That’s not a good sign coming into tonight against a team who’s hitting well.
This total is just too low considering all the runs scored this weekend and two struggling pitchers. I have to take the over.
Pick: Over 8 -110
