The San Antonio Spurs will try and keep pressure on the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference race when they play host to the Houston Rockets on Monday night. San Antonio is probably the only team that can catch the Warriors now that Kevin Durant is sidelined for the first place Warriors. The Spurs are just two back entering Sunday’s action and will host Golden State later this week. San Antonio has won seven in a row including the last two in overtime over New Orleans and Minnesota. Kawhi Leonard, who is making a case for league MVP, showed why he deserves that honor in Saturday’s 97-90 win over Minnesota by collecting 34 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and six steals. Center Pau Gasol is back in mid-season form, averaging 16 points on 56.5% shooting in five games since returning from a fractured finger. San Antonio began a stretch with six of seven at home with Saturday’s triumph after playing nine of 10 on the road. The Spurs will play the Kings and Thunder before their March 11th matchup with Golden State.

Houston begins the week just five games back of San Antonio in the Western Conference standings and have won four of their last five games and are second in the NBA in scoring (115.3). Houston has also won eight of its last 10 and just got done thumping a pair of West playoff contenders with wins over the Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies by an average of 17 points. MVP-candidate James Harden scored 20 of his 33 points in the third quarter in Saturday’s win over the Grizzlies and accounted for 30 of the team’s 38 points in the decisive period which includes both points and assists. The three-point shooting team could use a boost from Trevor Ariza, who is just 3-of-19 from long range in the last three games. The road team took each of the first three meetings this season, with Houston earning a 101-99 win at San Antonio on November 9th. After Monday’s contest in San Antonio, the Rockets will get three of their next four at home including a visit from Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland on March 12th.

The road team is playing well in this series and the Rockets are never out of a game with their three-point shooting. Houston is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games against teams with a .600 winning percentage or better. I’ll take the points in this matchup.
Pick: Rockets +4
