Opening Odds: Houston -124/9
In a game with a postseason-type feel to it, the Houston Astros held onto a 4-3 victory over the visiting Boston Red Sox in the opener of a three-game weekend series on Friday. The middle game is set for Saturday night as part of FOX’s Game of the Week with David Price opposing Brad Peacock. Houston took the opener despite recording just four hits, one of which was Jake Marisnick’s solo homer, as the Astros maintained their seven-game lead over the surging Texas Rangers. Boston received solo homers from Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Christian Vasquez, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Roberto Osuna from converting his 25th consecutive save opportunity, breaking the Astros’ franchise record set in 2005 by Brad Lidge. Houston reliever Ryan Pressly served up a homer to Bradley in the eighth inning to snap his major league-record streak of 40 straight scoreless appearances dating back to last August. J.D. Martinez went 0-for-3 with a walk after missing the previous four games with an injured back. The Astros’ George Springer came back from a four-game abscence with a sore back, but left in the eighth inning due to a pulled hamstring.
Pitchers: Red Sox – David Price (2-2, 3.29 ERA) | Astros – Brad Peacock (5-2, 3.59)
Price will meet Houston for the first time since recording nine strikeouts over six scoreless innings to pick up the win in the clinching Game 5 as the Red Sox won the American League Championship Series en route to capturing the World Series title in 2018. Price was 0-9 in postseason play prior to that victory and is coming off a win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday after allowing two unearned runs and three hits over five innings. Price is 6-2 with a 2.94 ERA in 12 career regular-season appearances (10 starts) against the Astros.

Peacock is on a roll with wins in each of his last three starts, allowing a total of one run and eight hits with 24 strikeouts in 17 innings. He pitched five scoreless innings against the Chicago White Sox in his last outing, recording nine strikeouts without issuing a walk. Peacock is 1-2 with an 8.36 ERA in five career appearances (four starts) versus Boston.
Its hard not to take Houston right now, especially the way Peacock is pitching lately. The Astros are an AL-best 19-6 at home this season, while Boston is just 14-14 away from home and 2-3 when Price starts on the road. It should be another tight game, but Houston will pull it out.
