The Texas Rangers and LA Angels start a big 3-game series tonight in Anaheim. Both teams have their eye on a playoff spot come October. The Rangers are in the middle of a 10-game road trip in which they are currently 2-1. Overall they have won 6 of their last 7 games and are now only 2 games behind the Astros in the American League West. They also hold a 1.5 game lead over the Twins for the last Wild Card spot. The offense has carried this team on their incredible second half run. They rank in the top 10 in MLB in just about every category. The bad news is that they rank near the bottom in pitching. Martin Perez makes his 9th start tonight. He is 2-3 with a high 5.15 ERA on the year. He has allowed 3 runs or more in every start, but one.
The Angels are coming home after a 4-5 road trip, but they did win their last 2 in Oakland. They also scored 20 runs in Oakland to gain some offensive momentum back in time for the Texas series. They are 5.5 games behind the Astros in the West and 3.5 behind in the Wild Card. Mike Trout is starting to heat up again with 7 hits in his last 4 games and Albert Pujols came through on Sunday with his 35th home run. The Angels leader in wins Garrett Richards will take the mound tonight. He is 12-10 overall with a 3.80 ERA in 25 starts. Last year he only allowed 5 home runs in 160+ innings, but this year he’s surrendered 15 already. He’s allowed 3 runs in 14 innings this year against Texas.
I like both of these offenses right now, so I’m leaning towards the over. The last 5 Angels games have gone over the total.
Pick: Over 7.5 -110
