The Phoenix Mercury look for their fourth win in five contests when they visit the Chicago Sky on Thursday night in the first meeting of the season between the two. The Mercury’s Diana Taurasi enters the game with 906 career made three-pointers and needs just one more to pass Katie Smith for first on the all-time list. Taurasi, who has 7,362 career points, also needs just 19 to pass Tamika Catching for second all-time in league scoring and is just 127 from taking the top spot held by Tina Thompson. The 13-year veteran is averaging 12.8 points a game this season which is second on the team to Brittney Griner (20.2). The 6’9″ center from Baylor also leads the team with 7.4 rebounds per game and a 58.1% field goal percentage. Phoenix continues a three-game road trip on Sunday at the New York Liberty and a June 7th game at Indiana.

The Sky (1-5) are stuck at the bottom of the WNBA Eastern Conference and struggling through a three-game losing streak which saw them surrender over 80 points in each contest. They lost a home-and-home set with Washington then were beaten at home by previously winless Connecticut. Their lone win was a 75-71 triumph over Atlanta on May 21st. Forward Tamera Young leads the Sky with a 15.2 points-per-game average, good for 14th in the league. Guard Cappie Pondexter is next at 14.7 point-per-game average and is 15th all-time in the WNBA for career minutes with at 11,665 and counting. Chicago recently got a couple of key players back in guards Allie Quigley and Courtney Vandersloot, who returned earlier this month from European play. Next up for Chicago is a three-game road trip at Los Angeles (June 6th), San Antonio (June 10th), and Phoenix (June 16th).

Phoenix has the best defense in the league (67.2 points/game) and their offense will be too much for the Sky. Chicago is 0-3 ATS at home so far.
Pick: Mercury -4.5
