It’s a battle of undefeated dome teams as the Detroit Lions host the Atlanta Falcons in a Week 3 battle from Ford Field. This will be Atlanta’s third game against an NFC North opponent as they took care of the Chicago Bears in Week 1 and Green Bay Packers last Sunday night. The Lions are 2-0 for the first time since 2011 and have been surprisingly tough on defense, especially against the run. Detroit ranks fourth against the run but has been susceptible versus the pass despite putting pressure on the quarterback. Atlanta’s balanced offense, which is led by quarterback Matt Ryan and running back Devonta Freeman, will provide a huge test for the Lions. Ryan has owned the Lions recently, throwing for 507 yards and six touchdowns against one interception in the last two meetings.
Atlanta’s offense hasn’t exploded like they did last season (yet), but they’ve been very efficient and have yet to commit a turnover. After a poor rushing effort against Chicago in Week 1, the Falcons got the ground game going against Green Bay as Freeman rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Ryan has thrown a touchdown pass in 21 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the league. Atlanta’s defense relies on a strong pass rush but will be without its top man in Vic Beasley Jr., who is sidelined with a hamstring injury. The Falcons have a very top-heavy schedule with their first division game not coming until November 5th. They will host Buffalo next week before going on their bye.

The Lions are coming off a nice Monday night victory over the New York Giants. Matthew Stafford has passed for just 414 yards through two games but is tied for the league lead with six touchdown tosses. They are trying to get the ground game going and Ameer Abdullah recorded a career-high 86 rushing yards in Monday’s 24-10 win over the Giants. In his past 15 home games, Stafford has averaged 276.6 passing yards with 32 touchdowns and six interceptions, while WR Golden Tate has recorded at least six receptions in his last three at Ford Field. The Lions will be in Minnesota next week for a pivotal division game.

It appears that the Falcons are not suffering from a Super Bowl losing hangover, especially the way they lost that game. They seem very determined and focused to get back there. The Lions two wins came against teams that don’t appear to be very good and their secondary could get scorched here today.
