The Kansas City Chiefs look to continue their dominance over division opponents when they visit the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon. Kansas City has reeled off 11 consecutive wins over AFC West foes. The streak is the longest current string of divisional success in the NFL, with Kansas City’s last such loss coming in Week 2 of the 2015 season against Denver, which went on to the win Super Bowl. The Chiefs opened the NFL season by upsetting the New England Patriots on the road, then used a strong second half to put away Philadelphia last week. The Chargers are in a must-win situation after losing their first two games by a combined five points to Denver and Miami, with unsuccessful late field-goal attempts being a factor both times. The Chiefs have won the last six meetings in the series and hold a 58-54-1 lifetime advantage. Chargers top receiver Keenan Allen suffered a season-ending ACL injury in the 2016 opener against Kansas City, but is back at full-strength now. Kansas City WR Tyreek Hill set a franchise record with a 95-yard punt-return touchdown against the Chargers last season.

Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith has been outstanding, completing 77.8% of his passes for 619 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions over the first two games. Rookie running back Kareem Hunt has been the biggest surprise around the league as he leads the NFL in rushing yards (229) and scrimmage yards (355) while scoring five touchdowns (three rushing, two receiving). Kansas City’s defense has given up some yards in their first two games (388.5), but already has recorded nine sacks, with outside linebacker Justin Houston and defensive end Chris Jones boasting three apiece. Kansas City will play three non-divisional games after this before a big meeting with Oakland on October 19th (Thursday).

Philip Rivers is off to a nice start, completing 73.6% percent of his passes for 523 yards, four touchdowns and one interception, but his team is averaging just 19 points a game. Running back Melvin Gordon (knee) is hurting and has gained only 67 yards on 27 carries while Allen has caught 14 passes but is averaging just 9.6 yards. Second-year outside linebacker Jatavis Brown has made an NFL-best 26 tackles while pass rusher Melvin Ingram, who signed a big contract recently, has 2.5 sacks. The Chargers have failed to cover the spread in their last seven games dating back to last season.

WEEK 3 NFL FREE PICKS – 9-1 TOP PLAYS LAST WEEK

The Chargers have had a couple of tough losses despite playing hard. They’ll be up for this game, but Kansas City will prove to be too much for L.A. to handle. The Chiefs are not only great against their own division, but play extremely well on the road.
