Boston (3-1) at LA Dodgers (1-3)
When: Sunday, October 28th 2018
Where: Dodger Stadium,
Los Angeles, California
Time: 8:09 ET | TV: FOX
Opening Odds: OFF
The Los Angeles Dodgers had everything going for them after the epic 18-inning victory in Game 3 of the World Series – momentum, a four-run lead, Boston’s cold bats – until the bullpen imploded in the late stages of Game 4. Now, ace Clayton Kershaw will try and keep L.A.’s dreams alive and send the series back to Boston when he takes the mound in Game 5 on Sunday opposite fellow lefty David Price. Boston will have the opportunity for their fourth World Series title in 15 years on Sunday after handing the Dodgers their first loss of the season when leading by four-plus runs in a game – a 9-6 victory that put them on the brink of their first championship since 2013. Boston’s Steve Pearce tied the game with a solo homer off Kenley Jansen in the eighth inning and broke it open with a three-run double in the ninth. Pearce, Rafael Devers and Mitch Moreland had the biggest hits in Game 4 for the Red Sox with Moreland blasting a pinch-hit three-run bomb in the seventh inning Saturday. Yasiel Puig got the Dodger Stadium faithful in a frenzy with a three-run homer to give Los Angeles a 4-0 lead after six innings, but its normally reliable bullpen could not hold the lead. Los Angeles 3B Justin Turner recorded three hits and a walk Saturday and is 8-for-21 in the World Series.
Pitchers: Red Sox – David Price (2-1, 4.26 ERA) | Dodgers – Clayton Kershaw (2-2, 3.91)
Price has been working on little rest, helping out when manage Alex Cora calls on him. He threw 13 pitches in relief during Friday’s Game 3 and was up in the bullpen Saturday. Instead of going with ace Chris Sale, Cora has decided with Price and will save Sale for a possible Game 6 back home. Price has been outstanding in his last two starts, throwing six scoreless innings against Houston to end the ALCS and limiting the Dodgers to two runs and three hits over six innings in Game 2.
Kershaw has been much better at home this postseason than on the road, and that was evident with his Game 1 performance at Fenway Park when he allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks in four innings. Kershaw has given up one run on five hits and two walks with 12 strikeouts in 15 innings at Dodger Stadium during the playoffs. Andrew Benintendi and J.D. Martinez each recorded two hits in Game 1 against Kershaw, who has surrendered just one homer in 23 postseason innings after giving up 17 in 26 games during the regular season.
Its hard to see how L.A. can come back from that devastating loss on Saturday, but if there’s one guy who can do it, its Kershaw. Price has been much better the last two starts, but I still don’t trust him in this situation. I say the Dodgers get on the board first, and this time hold onto the lead.
Pick: Dodgers
