LA Dodgers (12-8) at Milwaukee (12-7)
When: Thursday, April 18th, 2019
Where: Miller Park,
Milwaukee, WI
Time: 8:10 ET | TV: MLB Network
Opening Odds: Milwaukee -108/9
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been one of the streakiest teams in the league, following a five-game winning streak with a six-game skid, but now have reeled-off four straight victories thanks to strong pitching and will head to Milwaukee for a four-game series with the Brewers beginning Thursday. The Dodgers dropped two of three at home last week to Milwaukee and this will conclude their regular season series after the teams played an epic seven-game series in last year’s NLCS. A.J. Pollock smacked a three-run homer in the sixth inning Wednesday to propel L.A. back to the NL West lead with a 3-2 win over Cincinnati. It was Los Angeles’ 32nd straight home game with a home run – tying a major league record. Milwaukee was denied a three-game sweep by dropping a 6-3 decision in the series finale against St. Louis on Wednesday, but Reigning NL Most Valuable Player Christian Yelich had a great series, going 6-for-12 with four homers and 11 RBIs versus the Cardinals after going 2-for-12 last week at Dodger Stadium. Former Los Angeles catcher Yasmani Grandal was 6-for-11 with a homer and three RBIs against his former team last weekend.
Pitchers: Dodgers – Julio Urias (0-1, 5.27 ERA) | Brewers – Zach Davies (2-0, 1.53)
Julio Urias had a terrific first start to 2019 but has been roughed up in his last two, including to this Brewers team who hit him for six runs on six hits in five innings of work including two home runs. Urias, who could be pitching to save his spot in the rotation, lasted only 3.2 innings and giving up three runs in a no-decision at Colorado on April 7th. He is 1-1 in three starts versus the Brewers.
Zach Davies will also make his fourth start and he’s been much better than Urias thus far, helping Milwaukee win all three games in which he has started. He pitched a season-high seven innings against the Dodgers, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out six in his last turn. Davies allowed two runs (zero earned) on five hits over 5.2 innings against the Chicago Cubs in his previous outing. He is 3-1 with a 2.30 ERA versus the Dodgers.
This will be another great series this weekend between these two World Series contenders, but Urias should not be favored on the road in this game tonight. Davies has been much better and Milwaukee is 7-3 at Miller Park this season, hitting .320 against lefties there. Take the home dog.
