The Los Angeles Dodgers look to continue their winning ways tonight when they take a trip across town to visit the Angels in Anaheim. The Dodgers are coming off a successful start to their road trip by winning 3 of 4 down in San Diego. They surrendered 14 runs in the first two games to the Padres, but then shut them down on Saturday and Sunday 2-0 and 5-1. Since the Dodgers were swept in Houston back on August 23rd, they have won 11 of 13 and now own a 7.5 game lead of the Giants in the National League West. I really think this race is over. The Giants just don’t have enough to catch the Dodgers. Zack Greinke goes tonight and we just can’t say enough about what he was done this year. He should easily win the Cy Young Award. All you need to do is look at these numbers:
15-3 record, 186.2 innings pitched, 169 K, 32 Walks, 1.59 ERA, 0.85 WHIP
The Angels are starting to get hot at the right time. They have now won 4 of 5 and are 5.5 games behind Houston in the A.L. West and just 2.5 games behind Texas for the final Wild Card spot. The are averaging 6.75 runs a game in those 4 wins after yesterday’s 7-0 win over Texas. This is a big week for the Angels as they host both the Dodgers and Astros to complete their home stand. In order to win tonight they have to get a special outing from Nick Tropeano. He’s making just his 4th start this year and the last 2 have not been pretty. He’s given up 10 runs in 10.1 innings against the Rangers and White Sox. About the only good stat I could find on Tropeano is that in his 7 career starts he hasn’t allowed a home run yet. That could change tonight.
There’s no way I can go against Greinke in this pitching matchup, but I don’t want to lay -170 either, so I’ll take my chances that the Dodgers will hit Tropeano and win by more than a run.
