The battle of American League powerhouses continues Saturday night on FOX as the New York Yankee visit the Cleveland Indians for the third game in their four-game series. The Baby Bombers got the best of Cleveland in Thursday’s opener for their seventh-straight victory against Cleveland dating back to last year’s American League Championship Series, but the Tribe responded with a 6-5 victory on Friday to break the streak. All-Stars Michael Brantley and Jose Ramirez drove in two runs apiece for Cleveland, which won for just the second time in its last seven games overall and kept their 7.5-game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central. Ramirez hasn’t been Cleveland’s problem during their recent stretch, going 8-for-14 with four home runs, one triple, one double, 10 RBIs and five runs scored during his four-game hitting streak. Francisco Lindor has also picked-up his production, scoring six runs and driving in five in his last four games. New York lost for just the third time in 15 games against the AL Central opponents this season, stranding the tying run in the ninth inning. Yankees OF/DH Giancarlo Stanton blasted his 23rd home run on Friday while also finishing without a strikeout for the first time in 12 games. The Yankees turn to former Indian CC Sabathia on Saturday opposite Mike Clevinger.

Sabathia continues to have a strong season, but dropped a decision last time out, allowing five runs in as many innings at Baltimore. The hefty lefty pitched six scoreless innings against Cleveland at home earlier this season and owns 3.36 ERA in 12 career starts against his former team. Lindor (6-for-12) and Ramirez (5-for-10) have had good success against Sabathia.
Clevinger tied a season high with 11 strikeouts Monday against Cincinnati but allowed five runs in six innings in taking the loss. Clevinger was terrific at Yankee Stadium on May 6th, holding New York to one hit while striking out 10 over 7.1 innings. Aaron Judge has a home run in three at-bats against Clevinger, but the rest of the current Yankees are a combined 2-for-20.
This is a very evenly matched pitching matchup here, but despite Cleveland’s win last night, the Yankees are still the better team. They are 7-1 in their last eight against the Tribe and have scored five or seven runs in all five meetings this season.
