| Bet MLB games at Bdg Opening Line: Yankees -111 The biggest series of the weekend starts tonight in St. Petersburg, Florida where the Tampa Bays host the New York Yankees. The Rays, who have won 8 of 10 overall and 10 of 11 at home, are only 2 games behind the front-running Yanks. New York hasn’t been too bad lately either. They’ve won 7 of 10 overall and have the 2nd best road record in the majors at 31-20. Though both teams have been hot over their past 10 games, the Rays are doing it more with their pitching (or just playing the Tigers) than their bats. The Rays are only hitting .225 in their last 10, but have a nice 3.19 ERA. The Yanks just took 3 of 4 at Cleveland and are hitting .295 in their last 10. Phil Hughes starts for New York and brings a 12-3 record and 4.04 ERA to the mound. He’s been getting banged around lately, sporting a hefty 5.19 ERA in his last 3 starts. He has not faced the Rays in over 3 years. Wade Davis (8-9, 4.32 ERA) gets the call for Tampa Bay. He has dramatically improved as the season goes along. He’s 3-0 with a 2.11 ERA in this last 3 starts. The Yankees has hit him hard at Tropicana Field, however. In two home starts versus New York, Davis has allowed 7 earned runs in only 11 innings pitched. Despite how these pitchers have done in the month of July, I feel pretty confident that Phil Hughes will hold down the Rays and the Yankees will get to Davis early and often and come out victorious to take a 3 game lead in the A.L.
