The Yanks have now beaten Oakland 16 of the last 21 meetings. Tonight A.J. Burnett tries to put together 2 straight quality starts. Overall for the season Burnett has stuggled to a 6-7 record and 4.90 ERA. He held Toronto scoreless in 6 2/3 innings in his last outing, but before that he allowed 13 earned runs in 7 innings in his previous two starts. Only once in his last 10 starts has Burnett gone past the 7th inning and that was against the lowly Indians on May 30th. He’s going against an A’s team that is only hitting .235 in it’s last 10 games and .232 against righties. Burnett has also faired well pitching in Oakland. In three starts there, he has a 2.67 ERA. The A’s will counter with Gio Gonzalez who has been brillant in his last 3 starts. He has a 0.46 ERA in his last 19 2/3 innings, but has also surrendered 9 walks. The Yankees lit him up back in April for 5 runs and 5 walks in only 4 1/3 innings. The Yankees are getting hot again by winning 4 in a row and 5 of their last 6. Burnett will hold down a relatively weak A’s lineup and A-Rod will go yard again off Gonzalez. Take the Yanks.
