The Indianapolis Colts will have their work cut out for them when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday in Week 15 NFL action. The two AFC South squads will fight not just for their own division lead, but a better shot at hanging onto a potential wild card berth in a conference where such berths will be difficult to come by.
The Colts are the early favorites with a -5.5 point spread in Bdg’s online sportsbook, but there’s a lot more to this match up than simply that.
Though the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants will face each other in a similar game at New Meadowlands Stadium, the fact that the AFC East and North have already made a strong case for representing their divisions in the conference playoffs makes the stakes in Colts/Jaguars all the more impressive.
Despite the fact that the Eagles are listed as favorites and only one team can officially lead the NFC East division, whichever clubs ends the year in second appears to have a decent shot at hanging onto a wild card berth making for a should-, but certainly not must-win game.
In the AFC, it’s a different story.
Though there’s plenty of football left to be played in 2010, whoever finishes second in the AFC South could very well miss out on the postseason altogether. If that doesn’t motivate a squad in mid-December nothing will.
The Jaguars have managed an 8-5 record in their first 13 games this season compared to an injury-plagued Colts club that has limped out to a 7-6 mark. Though their pedestrian campaigns may be dwarfed by the success of AFC juggernauts in the North and East, no one wants to completely rule out legendary quarterback Peyton Manning just yet.
Even without stars Joseph Addai and Austin Collie the Colts will no doubt be ready to play this Sunday, so get your NFL odds at Bodog’s online sportsbook.
