With star point guard Chris Paul on the sidelines for the Houston Rockets in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals, the Golden State Warriors took full advantage of it and rolled to an easy 115-86 victory to force a deciding Game 7 on Monday night back in Houston. The Rockets came out of the gates with 39 first quarter points and a 17-point lead, but it was all Golden State after that. The Warriors found the form that made them NBA champions last season and can reach the Finals for a fourth-straight season with a win on Monday. Klay Thompson hit nine 3-pointers and scored 35 points as the Warriors were able to run the transition game that makes them great. The Warriors outscored the Rockets 55-20 in the second half before both coaches subbed their key players with 4:28 left. Golden State did it playing again without forward Andre Iguodala, who missed his third straight game of the series with a bone bruise in his left knee sustained in Game 3. He is listed as questionable for Game 7. The winner will play LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers beginning Thursday.
Thompson 9-of-14 from 3-point range in Game 6 as Golden State started to push the pace and move the ball. Curry added 29 points and five 3s, while Kevin Durant struggled with his shot at 6-of-17 but still scored 23 points. Thompson added four steals to his performance and did a terrific job guarding James Harden at the defensive end. Draymond Green also played a spectacular defensive game with four steals and five blocks to go along with his 10 rebounds and nine assists.
Paul sat out Game 6 with a hamstring injury suffered in the final minute of Game 5 and remains uncertain for Game 7. Without Paul running the point guard position, Houston committed 21 turnovers in Game 6, including nine by Harden, who finished with 32 points and nine assists but continued a trend of poor shooting from beyond the arc with a 4-of-12 effort. “Game 7 at our house. That’s what we worked the entire regular season for, is homecourt advantage. We’re going to come out and we’re going to be ready,” Harden told reporters of Game 7. Shooting guard Gerald Green is 6-of-9 from 3-point range over the last two games.
Golden State has the Rockets right were they want them. I think the Warriors got a little overconfident and cocky at times during this series, but when it comes down to it, they are the best team in the league. They won Game 1 in Houston by 13, and will do the same here in Game 7.
