UFC 249 is set to go off on Saturday night from Jacksonville, Florida in front of no fans and the main event is likely to start around 11:45 p.m. ET on pay-per-view. It’s the interim lightweight title between Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje.
This was supposed to be a matchup between unbeaten lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, the No. 2 ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC, and Ferguson, the No. 1 contender in the division. Khabib is stuck in Russia due to a Coronavirus shutdown and is expected to fight Saturday’s winner in the Fall.
Tony Ferguson -185
Justin Gaethje +150
The 36-year-old Ferguson (25-3) has won 12 fights in a row and his past four wins have come against Donald Cerrone, Kevin Lee, and former champions Anthony Pettis and Rafael dos Anjos. Ferguson’s odds to win by submission is +220 at Bovada Sportsbook, while winning by a decision is at +500.
Gaethje comes in at 21-2 and this will be his first title fight for the former WSOF champion. The 31-year old is currently listed as +150 to win, while the odds for him to win by submission are a staggering +2500. Gaethje comes in with three-straight wins and his last was in September 2019 over Cerrone by first-round TKO (punches).
