The Boston Red Sox will look to continue their strong play at Fenway Park when they go for the three-game weekend sweep of the Detroit Tigers on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. Boston, who has won seven of their last eight home games, have outscored the Tigers 16-6 in taking the first two games of this series. Mitch Moreland is 5-for-7 with a homer, two doubles, five RBIs and four runs scored in the series for the Red Sox, who remain three games behind the first-place New York Yankees in the American League East standings. Moreland, who is currently on a five-game hitting streak, is 13-for-22 with six RBIs and seven doubles versus Detroit this season. Xander Bogaerts also has five hits in the series, increasing his home batting average to .360 for the season. Detroit’s bullpen has been terrible during the team’s three-game losing streak, giving up 19 of 27 runs from the seventh inning on. Ex Red Sox shortstop Jose Iglesias is 5-for-8 in the series and has recorded multiple hits in five of his last 10 games to increase his batting average (.289) by 35 points. The Tigers will look to improve on their 13-20 road record.
Pitchers: Tigers – Daniel Norris (2-4, 4.48 ERA) | Red Sox – Drew Pomeranz (6-3, 4.02)
Daniel Norris has been stuck on two wins for a while now as he has failed to register a victory in his last six starts after allowing four runs – three earned – in six innings of work in a home loss to the Los Angeles Angels last time out. He made his season debut against Boston on April 9th but did not factor in the decision after giving up three runs and seven hits in 6+ innings. Bogaerts is 3-for-5 and Hanley Ramirez 2-for-4 against Norris.
Drew Pomeranz has turned things around after failing to get through four innings in three straight starts. He has now won his last three outings and is coming off a win at the New York Yankees on Tuesday in which he allowed two runs over five innings. He struck out 19 and gave up a combined three runs over 13 innings in victories over the White Sox and Texas in his previous two outings. He is 2-3 with a 4.24 ERA in seven career appearances versus Detroit.

I thought about taking the under in this one as nine of the last 12 between these two have pushed or gone under, but the Boston bats scare me right now. They’re averaging 8 runs a game this weekend and Norris has not been very good lately. Detroit is bad on the road and the Red Sox are rolling at home right now. I’ll take the runline. Don’t forget about Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals tonight!
Pick: Red Sox -1.5 +115
