With star forward Kawhi Leonard out of a pivotal Game 5, the San Antonio Spurs’ supporting cast stepped up in a big way to grab a huge win and a 3-2 series lead over the Rockets as they head back to Houston for Game 6 on Thursday. The Spurs, already without Tony Parker, saw Leonard hurt his ankle in the third quarter. He tried playing on it some more, but was eventually taken out of the game for good. Danny Green scored seven of his 16 points in overtime and Manu Ginobili blocked James Harden’s potential tying 3-pointer as time expired, giving the Spurs a huge win. Leonard ended the game with 22 points and 15 rebounds and is expected to play on Thursday. “Yeah, I’m going to be able to play,” when asked the burning question on Wednesday. Ginobili had his best game of the series with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists in addition to the game-saving rejection of Harden. LaMarcus Aldridge recorded 18 points and 14 rebounds in Game 5 for his first double-double of the series.

The Rockets live and die with the 3-pointer and Tuesday was a perfect example. They chucked up 48 three-pointers, only to make 16 of them. Harden was 4-of-15 and guard Eric Gordon was 1-for-6. Harden is averaging 27.4 points and 10.2 assists for third-seeded Houston but is shooting just 32.1% from beyond the arc in the series. With veteran center Nene (groin) done for the postseason, the Rockets only used seven players, with 3-point bomber Ryan Anderson seeing action in the interior to help compensate for the loss. Anderson did manage to make 3-of-6 from outside, but the other bench player, Lou Williams, was 0-for-5 and finished with just six points. Patrick Beverley made five 3-pointers and scored 20 points in Game 5 after averaging 9.3 over the first four games of the series. The Rockets are just 2-7 ATS in their last nine home games and are a big favorite in this one.

Houston has won two of their games in this series by 20+ points and if they’re hot, can do it again. I just think seven points is a lot to lay against a team like San Antonio. I think Houston wins this game to force a final battle, but it will be close.
