Ryan Garcia Had Impressive Knock Out of Francisco Fonseca With One Punch in the First Round

Ryan Garcia knocked out former two-time world title challenger Francisco Fonseca on Friday night. Garcia took care of Fonseca in the first round of the main event of a DAZN boxing card at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

The undefeated lightweight boxing prospect from Los Angeles used a devastating left hook to the face of Fonseca and it took him minutes to recover from the blow. The 21-year-old needed to make a statement and this can be the knockout of the year in boxing.

The boxing world is starting to notice Garcia. DAZN commentator Sergio Mora said this about Garcia: “a new star is born.”

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather Promotions CEO was also surprised: “Damn @KingRyanG you doing it like that?? Ok ok.” Ellerbe represents WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, who stopped Fonseca in eight rounds and could face Garcia in the near future.

Former lightweight champion Jorge Linares, who scored a big fourth-round knockout against Carlos Morales on Friday‘s undercard, appears headed toward a clash against Garcia in May. Garcia now has 17 knockouts in 20 fights and he just put the lightweight division on notice.

This is what Garcia said about his win over Fonseca:

“I seen the left hook, it was there. I just needed to let him commit to a shot. So I let him get comfortable and I caught him right between the shot. It’s a perfect left hook. That’s what they call it.”

After Ryan Garcia beat Francisco Fonseca, WBC lightweight ‘Champion in Recess’ Devin Haney stepped into the ring and called out Garcia. The two lightweights fought they were amateurs and Haney said: “If he wants a real fight, he can fight me.”
