Rockies vs Marlins Preview & Free Pick | Prediction [4/28/18]

Colorado (15-12) at Miami (7-18)
When: Saturday, April 28th 2018
Where: Marlins Park, Miami, FL
Time: 7:10 ET | TV: MLB Network
Opening Odds: Colorado -140/8.5

The Colorado Rockies look to continue their excellent road play when they continue their weekend series with the Miami Marlins on Saturday night at Marlins Park. The Rockies historically have been great at home, but poor away from Coors Field, but so far this season, the opposite is true. After last night’s 1-0 victory in the series opener, Colorado is now 10-5 on the road, while the Marlins dropped to 3-10 at home. Rockies starter Tyler Anderson left last night’s game in the second inning while dealing with discomfort but Colorado’s bullpen strung together 7.2 scoreless innings in the shutout victory as closer Wade Davis recorded his NL-leading 10th save Friday. Anderson told reporters after the game that he felt light-headed and dizzy but was checked out by doctors and did not have an irregular heartbeat. Second baseman DJ LeMahieu also exited the game in the fourth inning due to tightness in his right hamstring for Colorado. After winning back-to-back games in Los Angeles – including a win over Clayton Kershaw – Miami was blanked for the fourth time this season. Marlins third baseman Martin Prado (knee) was activated off the disabled list and went 0-for-4 in his first game since last July.

Pitchers: Rockies – German Marquez (1-2, 6.14 ERA) | Marlins – Caleb Smith (0-3, 5.82)

German Marquez has also been better on the road, like his team. In his latest outing, Marquez was tagged for six runs over 3.1 innings in a home loss to the Chicago Cubs. He was efficient at Pittsburgh in his previous outing with six innings of two-run ball to earn his first win and also pitched well on the road in the season opener, limiting Arizona to one unearned run in five innings. Marquez lost his lone career start at Marlins Park, giving up five runs in 4.1 innings.

Caleb Smith has an ERA of almost 6.00 this season, but is coming off his best outing, taking a hard-luck loss despite striking out 10 and limiting Milwaukee to two runs on two hits over six innings. In his previous start against the New York Yankees, he lasted only 2.1 innings and was hit for five runs on five hits. Smith has given up a homer in four of his five starts while allowing a total of 15 walks over 21.2 innings.

Yes, Marquez has been bad overall this season, but has only allowed two earned runs in 11 road innings while the Rockies have won both of those starts. Like I said in my Season Preview Video – Miami is going to lose over 100 games easily. Colorado should have no problem hitting Smith and winning this game.
