Colorado (31-28) at Chicago Cubs (33-26)
When: Wednesday, June 5th, 2019
Where: Wrigley Field,
Chicago, Illinois
Time: 8:05 ET | TV: MLB Network
Opening Odds: Chicago -112
The Colorado Rockies used a 10-game homestand to get things figured out and move back over the .500 mark by winning nine of those contests including the last eight. During that eight-game winning streak, they were only able to gain a half-game on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West, and fell to 10.5 games back after the Chicago Cubs ended Colorado’s winning streak at Wrigley Field on Tuesday. The Rockies will try and improve on their 13-16 road record when they play the second game of a three-game set on Wednesday night as German Marquez opposes Chicago’s Yu Darvish. Colorado scored four runs or more in each of their last 10 home games but managed just three Tuesday with Daniel Murphy supplying most of the offense with a homer and two RBI. The home run was just the fourth of the year for Murphy, who has recorded only 16 homers since the start of 2018 after connecting on at least 23 in each of the previous two seasons. Chicago is coming off back-to-back victories for the first time since May 21-22 thanks to Javier Baez, who is 5-for-8 with two home runs and five RBI in his last two games after batting just .167 over his previous 10. The Cubs are now percentage points ahead of Milwaukee after the Brewers were bombed 16-0 to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday.
Pitchers: Rockies – German Marquez (6-2, 3.48 ERA) | Cubs – Yu Darvish (2-3, 5.02)
Marquez has been a little inconsistent all season but the Rockies have won five of the last six games he’s started and 10 of 13 overall. It’s no surprise Marquez has been better on the road than at Coors Field, but he is coming off a solid outing at home against Toronto when he allowed two runs and six hits over seven innings last Friday. Marquez is 1-1 with a 4.40 ERA in three career starts against the Cubs.

Chicago has lost three of Darvish’s last four starts and the Japan native has not been involved in the decision in his last six starts. He allowed just one run on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts in six innings against St. Louis last Friday in a 2-1 loss. Darvish is 0-3 in his career versus Colorado and has allowed a whopping 16 runs on 17 hits and nine walks over 13.1 innings.
Marquez is a different pitcher on the road and should have some success here against the Cubs, while Darvish hates facing the Rockies. Colorado faced a tough pitcher last night – things will be easier tonight. The Rockies still has a little momentum despite the setback on Tuesday.
