The red-hot Boston Red Sox will look to put more distance between them and the host New York Yankees this weekend when they open a three-game series on Friday night in the Bronx. Boston is slowly pulling away from the rest of the American League East contenders with an eight-game winning streak. They enter the weekend with a 4.5-game lead over New York and seven over fading Tampa Bay. The Yankees have a big opportunity to cut into that lead this weekend, but will go up against a Boston staff that has been pitching very well. Boston leads the AL with a 3.63 team ERA and have allowed three or fewer runs in each of the last five games. The offense has been helped out by newcomer Eduardo Nunez, who is batting .420 in 11 games since joining the team, and has recorded multiple hits in eight of those 11 games. After scoring 11 run in a win over Toronto on Wednesday, the Yankees were held scoreless in the finale by Marco Estrada, who had an ERA over five entering the contest. Slugger Aaron Judge continues to struggle, batting below .300 for the first time this season and has struck out in a franchise record 27 straight ball games. Didi Gregorious leads the team with a .311 batting average and is 12-for-26 during his current six-game hitting streak and five extra base hits. Newcomer Jaime Garcia will take the mound for New York in hopes of slowing down the Red Sox.

Pitchers: Red Sox – Eduardo Rodriguez (4-3, 4.08 ERA) | Yankees – Jaime Garcia (5-8, 4.49)

Eduardo Rodriguez will oppose Garcia and will make his fifth start since returning from a stint on the DL. He held the Chicago White Sox to two runs and four hits in six innings last time out. Rodriguez received a no-decision in that game and is looking for his first win since May 26th. He will face the Yankees for the first time this season and is 4-1 with a 2.66 ERA in seven career starts against them.

WIN A TRIP TO SEE MAYWEATHER VS MCGREGOR

Garcia took the loss in his New York debut last Friday night and didn’t look good in doing so. He was tagged for for six runs – five earned – on five hits and four walks in 4.2 innings at Cleveland. Garcia is making his third AL start after beginning the season in Atlanta and getting traded to Minnesota before moving over to the Yankees. Garcia began his career with the St. Louis Cardinals but was hurt when they played Boston in the 2013 World Series and is seeing the Red Sox for the first time.

The Yankees are really struggling offensively right now and the Red Sox staff has been terrific during their winning streak. I didn’t like what I saw out of Garcia last week in his first start as a Yankee. I have to go with Boston in the opener.

Pick: Red Sox +110
