Rangers vs Yankees Preview and Free Pick – May 24th, 2015 ]]> include($base_url . “/includes/header.htm”); ?>
The New York Yankees continue their 6-game home stand with a Sunday Night date with the Texas Rangers. The Yanks have fallen on hard times since starting out the season on fire. Since their win at Tampa Bay on May 11th, they have lost 9 of their last 10 games. At 22-21 they now find themselves 2.5 games behind the 1st place Rays.
Chris Capuano will be making just his 2nd start this year and his first outing didn’t go so well. The Royals roughed him up for 4 runs in only 3 innings in a 6-0 loss last Sunday. He was on the disabled list since the beginning of the season. Last year he started 12 games for the Yankees and went 2-3 with a 4.25 ERA.
Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers have been heating up and are only 3 games under .500. They have won 4 in a row and have scored 25 runs in the first two games in this series. Prince Fielder has been on fire all season hitting .351 with 8 homers and 30 RBI. He’s also 5 for 9 in this series with 3 home runs. Right now, he’s the only Ranger regular hitting of .300 for the season as Texas is only hitting .243 as a team and that includes the last two games.
Tonight’s starter is Yovani Gallardo. He comes over from the Milwaukee Brewers and has had a rude awakening in the American League. He’s 3-6 in his 9 starts with an ERA of 4.26. He surrendered 10 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings Tuesday in Boston. This will be his first career start against the Yankees.
Right now I’d have to take the hot team in Texas especially over Chris Capuano, who I don’t trust at all.
Pick: Rangers +121
