It’s probably unlikely that the Milwaukee Bucks will give up the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference race, but the Toronto Raptors are trying their best to catch them. Toronto is seeking their 12th straight victory on Wednesday when they host the Indiana Pacers in the front-end of a home-and-home that will conclude Friday night in Indianapolis. The Raptors are beginning to get healthy and are receiving contributions up and down the lineup and bench. Toronto’s 11th straight victory came in a 129-102 thrashing of the Chicago Bulls and reserve shooting guard Terence Davis led the way with a career-best 31 points in 28 minutes off the bench. The Pacers are searching for some consistency with star guard Victor Oladipo back in the lineup. Indiana dropped their second game in a row on Monday and Oladipo has yet to reach double figures in three games since returning from surgery to repair a torn quad tendon and is a combined 8-of-39 from the floor, including 3-of-21 from 3-point range. The Pacers won the first meeting back on Dec. 23, a 120-115 overtime victory at home, but the Raptors are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings.
Indiana was outrebounded badly in their two recent setbacks and rank 26th in the league in rebounds per contest. Oladipo, who is still coming off the bench while he works his way back into game-shape, wasn’t the only player struggling during Monday’s 112-103 loss to Dallas. Starting point guard Malcolm Brogdon went 6-of-17 from the floor after going just 4-of-13 in the previous game versus New York. The lone bright spot was forward Domantas Sabonis, who drained 11-of-18 from the field for a team-high 26 points while also grabbing 12 rebounds. Second leading scorer T.J. Warren (18.1) sat out Monday and is questionable while in the league’s concussion protocol.
Davis made the most of his chances on Sunday because normal sixth man Norman Powell went down with a broken finger last week and Davis delivered by going 12-of-15 from the floor, including 6-of-7 from beyond the arc in the easy win over the Bulls. The bench played a big part in the victory with power forward Chris Boucher contributing 15 points and Patrick McCaw 10 points, giving the Raptors seven players in double-figures Sunday. Center Marc Gasol (hamstring) has been ruled out for Wednesday, while small forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (ankle) is questionable after missing the last four games.
I’m not going against this Toronto team right now. They have won and covered the spread in each of their last four home games and Indiana does not matchup well here with a struggling offense. I’ll lay the points.
