Not even back-to-backs can slow down the Philadelphia 76ers right now, as they continue to dominate opponents at home. Wells Fargo Center will be the backdrop for a TNT matchup Tuesday night with the Denver Nuggets coming to town looking to right the ship against a 76ers team that is a perfect 12-0 at home thus far. The Sixers cruised to an easy 141-94 win over Cleveland Saturday night before getting by nemesis Toronto the following night 110-104, covering the spread in both contests. Forward Tobias Harris scored 26 points on Sunday against Toronto to help Philadelphia win for the 10th time in 12 games to move to within a half-game of the Boston Celtics in the competitive Atlantic Division. The Nuggets are a Western Conference contender along with Houston and the L.A. teams, but have fallen on hard times of late. Denver got off to a 13-3 start, but has since dropped four of five to drop to fifth place in the West after a 105-102 loss at Brooklyn on Sunday. The Nuggets will try and even their four-game road trip before heading back home. The Sixers missed a big opportunity at a road win back on Nov. 8 at Denver when they were outscored by the Nuggets 35-13 in the fourth quarter of a 100-97 setback.
Star center Nikola Jokic had 24 points and 11 rebounds in the loss to Brooklyn for his ninth double-double of the season, but the Nuggets were outscored 66-22 in the paint. Veteran power forward Paul Millsap had just nine points and four rebounds after scoring just five on 2-of-6 shooting at Boston two days earlier. It was Millsap’s fourth single-digit outing in his last six games to drop his scoring average to 13.0. Point guard Jamal Murray was the only other double-digit starter on Sunday with 21 points including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, while Jerami Grant hit 5-of-7 from beyond the arc as part of his 15 points off the bench. Denver returns home to begin a five-game homestand against Portland on Thursday.
Joel Embiid had another off-night against the Raptors, scoring 10 points in 30 minutes after held scoreless against them just a few weeks earlier. Something about Toronto I guess. It didn’t matter this time around as others picked him up including rookie guard Matisse Thybulle, who came off the bench to established season bests of 20 points and five 3-pointers. He also had three steals against the Raptors to raise his total 13 over the last seven games. Guard Ben Simmons was one assist shy of a triple-double and failed to record a steal for just the third time this season. Third-leading scorer Josh Richardson (16.1) has missed the last six games with a hamstring injury but is close to returning. The Sixers have a big game with first place Boston on Thursday.
I’m going to take the hot team here. Denver struggles on the road and Philly has yet to lose at home. This line is small enough for me to be confident the 76ers can cover this.
