The Oklahoma State Cowboys came into this season with expectations of at least ending their three-year NCAA Tournament drought, but things have not gone well in Stillwater. Despite some strong wins against Syracuse and Houston, the Pokes are still searching for their first conference victory when they host the Kansas Jayhawks on Monday night. Oklahoma State sits at the bottom of the Big 12 with an 0-6 mark, but are coming off a nice 73-62 road win over Texas A&M in the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Saturday. Three reserves scored in double-figures for the Cowboys, who can at times, play terrific defense. They will face a Kansas team coming off an emotional week in which two players were suspended after an end-of-game brawl with rival Kansas State on Tuesday. The team picked themselves up and managed to hold-off the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday 74-68 without sophomore forwards Silvio De Sousa (12 games) and David McCormack (two games). Senior center Udoka Azubuike picked up the slack with 18 points and 11 rebounds while sophomore guard Devon Dotson led the way with 22 points. The Jayhawks have won each of the last three meetings including a 72-67 triumph at Gallagher-Iba Arena last March.

Kansas currently sits just a half-game behind top-ranked Baylor in the Big 12 standings with their only conference loss coming to the Bears a few weeks ago. The Jayhawks had just seven scholarship players on Saturday including leading scorer Dotson (18.4), who is averaging 20.3 over the past three games despite dealing with a hip injury. Azubuike (13.2 points, team highs of 9.6 rebounds and 2.5 blocks) is almost averaging a double-double, while sophomore guard Ochai Agbaji had 16 points versus Tennessee and averaged 17 in two wins over the Cowboys last season. Kansas will host a tough Texas Tech team on Saturday.

Oklahoma State was supposed to be one of the better three-point shooting teams in the nation, but they can’t seem to hit from anywhere on the floor, ranking 294th in field goal percentage (41.3) and 293rd in shooting the three (31.0). Senior guard Jonathan Laurent is stepping up, averaging eight points above his season mark (4.1) in the last two games. Sophomore guard Isaac Likekele led five players in double-figures Saturday with 13 points against Texas A&M and is second on the team in scoring (11.6) behind senior guard Lindy Waters III (12.0). Waters chipped in 11 points Saturday, while senior forward Cameron McGriff became the 43rd player in program history to reach 1,000 points. The Cowboys play at rival Oklahoma on Saturday.
