The New York Jets have been on prime time twice already this season and neither has gone well, but the team has been playing better of late and will try not to get embarrassed this Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens. This will be the last Thursday night game on the schedule and this one offers one of the biggest spreads in the NFL this season. New York comes in as 15-point underdogs to the red-hot Ravens, who are on their way to the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Baltimore has won nine games in a row behind leading MVP candidate Lamar Jackson after a 24-17 win at Buffalo last Sunday. The Ravens have covered the spread in six of their last seven games, while the Jets have won four of five overall, but against some of the league’s worst. New York’s last four wins have come against the N.Y. Giants, Washington, Cincinnati, and Miami. The Ravens are 8-2 all-time vs. the Jets, but New York took the most recent matchup 24-16 in 2016. The favorite is 6-2 ATS in the past eight meetings, while the under is 3-1-2 in the previous six.
The Jets win over Miami was one of the more dramatic endings last Sunday when Sam Ficken hit a 44-yard field goal as time expired for the longest walk-off winning field goal in team history. Quarterback Sam Darnold, who has had an inconsistent season, injured his hand early in the fourth quarter but stayed in the game and was 20-for-36 for 270 yards and two scores with a pick. He is not listed on the injury report as of Tuesday night, but running back Le’Veon Bell is. The former Steeler missed last week’s game due to an illness. Robby Anderson had his second straight 100-yard receiving game with 116 and a touchdown. The defense was without top safety Jamal Adams with a foot injury and he’s questionable for Thursday. New York ranks second in the NFL at defending the run (78.8) and seventh overall (320.8). The Jets will host Pittsburgh next week before closing the season at Buffalo.
Baltimore’s franchise-record ninth win in a row also clinched a playoff spot as they improved to 6-1 away from home with the victory in Buffalo. They can wrap up the AFC North this week and they control their own destiny to be the AFC’s top seed. Jackson threw three touchdown passes and rushed for 40 yards and has 1,017 rushing yards on the season – 22 shy of Michael Vick’s single-season record for a quarterback. Top tight end Mark Andrews left with a knee injury and it’s not yet clear if he will miss time – he’s listed as questionable. The Ravens, who are 1-7 ATS in their past eight as home favorites, will be at Cleveland next week.
Just because an NFL game is on national TV, doesn’t mean you have to bet it. This is one game that falls into that category. I don’t want any part of it, but we make our picks in ALL games here at UltimateCapper.com and my suggestion – along with Bobby and Reggie – is to take the points. Underdogs have been covering at a high rate this season and it’s not very wise to lay this many points, even in this case.
