One team is already securely in the NFL postseason picture, while the other is fighting for their lives. That’s the type of motivation you’ll see on display at Nissan Stadium in Nashville as the Jacksonville Jaguars visit the Tennessee Titans in a Week 17 battle. Tennessee, which has gone eight straight seasons without a playoff appearance, will end that drought with a win on Sunday. The Titans don’t have much momentum coming into this one with losses in three-straight games, including last week’s 27-23 home setback against the Los Angeles Rams. The Titans also would reach the postseason with losses by Buffalo and the Los Angeles Chargers, but they may have to play their season finale without DeMarco Murray after the running back suffered a torn MCL versus the Rams. Jacksonville, which is locked in as the third seed in the AFC, will be play their starters as the look to avenge a 37-16 home loss to Tennessee in Week 2. The Jaguars lead the NFL in sacks (52) and rank second in points allowed (253) despite allowing 44 in a loss at San Francisco last week.
The Jacksonville defense has been the strong suit, but the rush offense is averaging a league-best 145.3 yards a game led by Leonard Fournette, who needs 29 yards on the ground to join Fred Taylor (1,223) as the only rookies in franchise history to rush for 1,000. Fournette also aims to record a rushing touchdown for the fourth consecutive game. Blake Bortles, who threw for a career-high 382 yards last week, has passed for 995 and nine touchdowns with only one interception in his last three visits to Nashville.

With Murray’s status in question, Derrick Henry is prepared to carry the load against the Jaguars. Henry actually leads the team in rushing with 693 yards and has a better per-carry average than Murray (4.7 – 3.6). In addition to Murray, Tennessee also could be without cornerback Logan Ryan, who missed the loss to the Rams with an ankle injury and has not practiced this week. Quarterback Marcus Mariota is coming off one of his worst performances of the season, completing 22 passes for 275 yards, and a QB rating of 67.8. The Titans defense is ranked fifth against the run (89.1), but 25th against the pass (245.5).
This game will be all about who wants it more. Jacksonville has nothing to play for and may pull their starters after halftime. Tennessee will be going all-out in this one and should come out victorious.
