LA Dodgers (96-54) at Colorado (70-79)
When: Tuesday, September 21st 2021
Where: Coors Field,
Denver, CO
Time: 8:40 ET | TV: MLB.tv
Opening Odds: Los Angeles -191/11
The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the hottest teams in the league and will finish with over 100 wins. That still might not be enough to win their ninth consecutive National League West crown because the team ahead of them just won’t stop winning. The Dodgers try and chase down the San Francisco Giants when they open a three-game series at the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. L.A. starts the week just one game back but haven’t made up much ground despite winning eight of their last nine including two of three in Cincinnati to open the road trip. In their last 10 games, the Dodgers are batting just .245 as a team, but the team ERA is a sparkling 2.25.
They will face a Rockies team who all of the sudden remembered how to win on the road. The Rockies wrapped up a 7-2 road trip back East by taking two of three at the Washington Nationals over the weekend. Colorado’s bats came alive in the nine game trek, averaging 4.8 runs a game despite being shutout on Sunday. The Rockies 45 home wins are third in the National League behind the Dodgers and Giants. On Opening Day, Colorado defeated the Dodgers 8-5 but then lost the next eight matchups. The Rockies have come back to take four of the next seven including two of three in L.A. last month.
Pitchers: Dodgers – Julio Urias (18-3, 2.99) | Rockies – Antonio Senzatela (4-9, 4.06)
Julio Urias will get the start for L.A. and the lefty leads the majors with 18 wins to only three losses on the season while owning a 2.99 ERA. On the season, Urias has struck out 180 batters and walked just 35. In 13 outings against Colorado, he is 2-1 with a 5.26 ERA and 5.45 ERA at Coors Field.
Antonio Senzatela has pitched much better in the second half of the season, compiling a 3.32 ERA in three September starts after a 2.93 ERA in August. Against the Dodgers, the righty is 4-5 with a 6.18 ERA in 13 outings (11 starts). Senzatela pitched seven shutout innings at Dodger Stadium last month in Colorado’s 5-0 victory.
The Dodgers are on a roll now, but this pesky Rockies team is playing some good ball. They are winning at Coors Field and now away from home. They always play the Dodgers tough at home and I’ll give them a fighting chance here tonight.
