Opening Odds: Los Angeles -135/12.5
The Colorado Rockies have fallen off the face of the Earth over the last two weeks and are playing themselves out of contention for a postseason berth with 56 games to go. The road doesn’t get any easier this week as they return home to face the the best team in Baseball and the Los Angeles Dodgers – a team that has beaten Colorado eight out of 10 times this season. The Rockies were right near the top of the National League Wild Card standings on July 14th when they stood at 46-46. Since then, they are 3-11 and 7.5 games back of a playoff spot and they are in front of only two teams now. Colorado dropped two of three at Cincinnati over the weekend including a tough 3-2 setback where they had numerous chances to win that game. Yonder Alonso is 6-for-12 with a homer, three RBI and four runs scored since begin acquired from the White Sox, while David Dahl extended his hitting streak to six games. The Dodgers couldn’t complete the three-game sweep at Washington over the weekend, dropping the finale 11-4 on Sunday but still own the majors’ best record (69-38) and have won two of three since dropping two straight at home to the L.A. Angels. Corey Seager accounted for most of the runs with a three-run homer and rookie catcher Will Smith had a single after recording six RBI in Saturday’s 9-3 victory over the Nationals.
Pitchers: Dodgers – Kenta Maeda (7-7, 3.81 ERA) | Rockies – Jon Gray (9-7, 4.05)
As good as the Dodgers have been this year, they are only 3-6 in Kenta Maeda’s last nine starts after a 5-4 loss to the Angels last Tuesday when the Japanese native allowed three runs on four hits over 4.1 innings. Maeda is 0-5 over his last 10 appearances with a 4.08 ERA and just two quality starts. He is 1-0 with a 2.76 ERA in three starts against the Rockies this year, however.

John Gray was cruising along last Wednesday at Washington with four innings of two-hit ball but had to leave due to a calf injury. He walked five in that outing and has eight free passes in his last two starts covering 9.1 innings. Gray is 1-1 with a 4.97 ERA in two starts versus the Dodgers this season – both at home.
I just can’t see how you can take the Rockies right now. The reason the line is only -137 is because Maeda has not been very good, but the Dodgers will be able to outscore Colorado in this one and continue their dominance over them.
