Arizona (50-41) at Colorado (46-44)
When: Tuesday, July 10th 2018
Where: Coors Field, Denver, CO
Time: 8:40 ET | TV: FS Arizona, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain
Opening Odds: Colorado -120/11
The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies have been two teams in the past that have dominated at their home ballparks. This year is not that case, yet both clubs are right in the middle of a tight NL West race with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants thanks to their impressive road marks. The D’Backs and Rockies will begin a key three-game series Tuesday night at Coors Field as Patrick Corbin opposes fellow lefty Tyler Anderson. The Diamondbacks are probably eager to get away from Phoenix after a dismal 3-7 homestand culminated by a 16-inning loss to the last-place San Diego Padres on Sunday. The Diamondbacks (50-41) are six games above .500 away from Chase Field this season, while Colorado (46-44) has struggled to an 18-22 mark. Arizona has recorded 47 runs en route to winning five of six against Colorado this season, highlighted by a three-game sweep at Coors Field last month in which it won each contest by five runs. Paul Goldschmidt, who was selected to his sixth straight All-Star Game on Sunday, is 7-for-13 with three RBIs and two runs scored in his last three games overall and 8-for-21 with four homers, nine RBIs and 10 runs scored versus the Rockies this season. Colorado saw its five-game winning streak halted with a 6-4 setback at Seattle on Sunday. All-Star outfielder Charlie Blackmon, who has three homers in his last five games, has gone deep four times in 23 at-bats against Arizona this season. Colorado 3B Nolan Arenado, who was selected to his fourth straight All-Star Game, is 5-for-25 with five strikeouts against Arizona this season. Entering Monday’s action, the D’Backs lead the Dodgers by a game in the division, with Colorado and San Francisco both 3.5 back.
Pitchers: Diamondbacks – Patrick Corbin (6-3, 3.05 ERA) | Rockies – Tyler Anderson (6-3, 3.90)
Corbin was also selected to this year’s Mid-Summer Classic – his second All-Star Game selection and first since 2013. He’s coming into this contest with some momentum after allowing two runs while striking out 23 in his last three starts (19 innings). However, Corbin has three-straight no-decisions despite allowing one run on six hits in as many innings against St. Louis last time out. He is 8-3 in his career versus Colorado after surrendering two solo homers while striking out eight over 5.2 innings of an 8-2 win on Opening Day.
Anderson is also coming in hot and extended his scoreless innings streak to 16 Wednesday after allowing two hits and striking out a season high-tying nine over eight innings in a rare 1-0 Coors Field victory versus San Francisco. Anderson was not sharp in his last meeting with Arizona on March 30th, allowing seven runs and four walks in 2.1 innings.
These two teams are pretty similar in how they have played their best ball on the road. Take a look at what Arizona has done when visiting Coors Field. They have won eight in a row including a dominating three-game sweep earlier this season. Corbin is in top form right now and should get the better of Anderson here tonight.
Pick: D’Backs +100
