Arizona (25-21) at Milwaukee (28-19)
When: Monday, May 21st 2018
Where: Miller Park, Milwaukee, WI
Time: 7:40 ET | TV: FS Arizona, FS Wisconsin
Opening Odds: Milwaukee -110/8.5
The Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers are a pair of first place teams who are trending in opposite directions. The two will begin a three-game series Monday night in Miller Park as Arizona ace Zack Greinke takes on Chase Anderson. The D’Backs stormed out of the gates this season, but have seen their offense go cold while losing 10 of their last 11 games, scoring just 22 runs in that stretch. Arizona is coming off being swept three games by the New York Mets to kick off their nine-game road trip to fall to 11-9 on the road after winning 10 of their first 14 away from home. The Diamondbacks’ only win in their last 11 games was a 2-1 home win over Milwaukee last Tuesday, when Greinke allowed one run over six innings in a no-decision. Milwaukee, which leads the NL Central, was unable to complete a three-game sweep of Minnesota over the weekend as it fell 3-1 in Sunday’s finale but still has won seven of its last 10 overall. First baseman Jesus Aguilar has been riding a hot stick for the Brewers, blasting four homers and knocking in six runs over his last three games while hitting safely in five straight (8-for-19). Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt is 36-for-79 with 10 doubles, seven homers and 20 RBIs in 20 career games at Miller Park, but is having a terrible season thus far. The former All-Star is hitting .205 and has knocked in only 13 runs all season – fifth on the team – and is second to Texas’ Joey Gallo with 61 strikeouts.
Pitchers: Diamondbacks – Zack Greinke (3-2, 3.46 ERA) | Brewers – Chase Anderson (3-3, 3.97)
Greinke has allowed fewer than two runs in each of the last three starts – a stretch during which he did not receive a decision while surrendering 13 hits over 18.2 innings. He boasts four quality starts over his last six outings and recorded 58 strikeouts while issuing only seven walks in 54.2 innings this season. Greinke is 1-3 with a 3.75 ERA in seven career games (six starts) against Milwaukee.
Anderson has been on a break battling an illness for two weeks and is seeking his fourth win in six outings. Anderson was roughed up by the Reds and Pirates in his last two starts, but was brilliant against the Cubs in his previous turn, allowing just one run in seven innings. He is 2-1 with a 1.88 ERA in four career games versus Arizona.
I can’t take the Diamondbacks as long as they’re not hitting despite their ace on the mound. Milwaukee is coming off a very successful road trip and will keep the momentum going on Monday.
Pick: Brewers +115
