Don’t look now, but the Chicago Cubs are getting hot. After yesterday’s 2-1 win over Corey Kluber and the Indians, the Cubbies are now 72-51 and may still have a shot at the National League Central. They are 1 of only 4 teams in MLB to have 70+ wins, but they find themselves third in the Central thanks to the great seasons of the Pirates and Cardinals. Chicago should easily get one of the Wild Card spots, but their eyes are still focused on a division title. Now they take their show to the West Coast this week for 3 in San Francisco and 3 more in L.A.
The Giants failed to take advantage of the slumping Dodgers last week by losing 5 of their last 7 games, but still find themselves only a game and a half behind Los Angeles in the N.L. West. They are now 31-34 away from AT&T Park, but start an important and tough 6-game homestand against the Cubs and Cardinals this week. Tonight might even be tougher. They throw their worst starting pitcher at the Cubs in Matt Cain. In 9 starts this year he has an ERA of 5.66 and has allowed 9 home runs in just 47 innings.
I know taking a road favorite over -130 is risky, but Jake Arrieta has been terrific this year and the red-hot Cubs should get to Cain pretty easily. With that being said, let’s take the runline in this one.
