The Yankees and Astros meet again tonight after last night’s 1-0 Yankees win on Carlos Beltran’s walk-off sacrifice fly. In what many thought, including me, was going to be a slugfest, Nathan Eovaldi and Scott Feldman of all pitchers, locked up in an old-fashioned pitchers duel. Both pitched 8 shutout innings. The win by New York tied them for first place in the A.L. East with Toronto, while the Astros loss decreased their lead in the A.L. West to 3.5 games over the Rangers.
Tonight’s pitching matchup really should be a good one. Houston’s ace Dallas Keuchel goes up against Ivan Nova. Keuchel is 14-6 with a 2.37 ERA on the season and is approaching 200 innings for the second year in a row. He’s only allowed 3 runs in his last 16 innings of work. Nova has been roughed up a bit lately, allowing 10 runs in his last 3 starts after winning three straight games.
I’m going to take a shot with Houston tonight based on the pitching matchup. In a lot of cases you have to go with the hotter pitcher, and right now it’s Keuchel over Nova.
