The Los Angeles Clippers have been on opposite ends of blowouts in the first two games of their four-game road trip and will now head to Philadelphia to play a 76ers team that has been dominant at home this season. The Clippers rebounded from an embarrassing 142-115 loss at the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday with a 133-92 blowout win at Cleveland the next night and have won four of their last five overall to get within striking distance of the first place L.A. Lakers in the Western Conference. The Clippers have been terrific versus Eastern Conference opponents, going 16-4 straight up and 14-6 ATS, but are just 15-11 overall on the road. The Sixers have been night and day when it comes to home/road splits. Philly is coming off back-to-back home victories to improve to 24-2 SU and 16-11 ATS at Wells Fargo Center, as compared to 9-19 (7-19-2 ATS) on the road. The 76ers lost four consecutive contests before Furkan Korkmaz exploded for a career-best 34 points and followed up with 31 while leading the team to those last two victories. Philadelphia will face Kawhi Leonard for the first time since his four-bouncer, baseline jumper ended their playoff run last spring. The Clippers have yet to play the Sixers since Leonard and Paul George joined over the summer and Philadelphia is 7-0 against the number in its last seven games against the Clips.
The Clippers acquired sharp-shooting wing Marcus Morris on trade deadline from the New York Knicks and he debuted by scoring 10 points on 5-for-12 shooting on Sunday night despite missing all four of his 3-point attempts. Morris is hitting 43.9 percent from beyond the arc on more than six attempts per game and is averaging a career-best 19.6 points per game this season. Guard Lou Williams scored 25 points and George added 22 in an easy win in which Los Angeles led by as many as 45 points versus the Cavaliers. The Clippers, who are three games behind the Lakers, will be at Boston on Thursday before entering the All-Star Break.
Korkmaz is a sizzling 25-of-34 shooting – including 13-of-20 from 3-point range – in the top two performances of his 115-game NBA career. All-Star center Joel Embiid is coming off a 28-point, 12-rebound, 5-assist, 4-block effort on Sunday against the Bulls and the Sixers will need more of that consistently in order to compete in the East. Point guard Ben Simmons recorded 19 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and four steals for his fifth triple-double of the season, while forward Glenn Robinson III scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting in 12 minutes off the bench. Power forward Al Horford missed all six field-goal attempts while going scoreless against Chicago. This will be Philly’s final game until after the All-Star Break.
I know the Clippers have a better team, but they struggle on the road, while the Sixers are the best home team in the league (24-2). This is basically a pickem game and I have to take Philadelphia, who by the way, is 7-0 ATS in the last seven meetings.
