Isaiah Thomas and the Boston Celtics look to take their momentum into the Nation’s Capital when they battle the Washington Wizards in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series on Thursday night. Thomas’ sister, Chyna, died on the eve of the playoffs and her 23rd birthday would have been on Tuesday, when Thomas scored 53 points including 29 in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead Boston to a 129-119 win and a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Thomas had oral surgery on his mount for a tooth that was knocked out in Game 1, but still never considered not playing on Tuesday night. The 53 points were the most in an NBA Playoff game since Allen Iverson scored 55 in 2003. Thomas is getting plenty of help from center Al Horford, who has been terrific thus far, shooting 16-of-22 from the floor in the series and recording a double-double in each of the first two games. Shooting guard Avery Bradley is just 13-of-36 from the field in the series but totaled seven steals in the first two games. Boston has covered the spread in their last four road games including outright wins in Chicago during the first round.

Washington got another big game out of star guard John Wall, but once again, it wasn’t enough as fellow guard Bradley Beal had an off night. Wall scored 40 points and dished out 13 assists, but came up short on a jumper with 3 seconds remaining in regulation on Tuesday, then Beal followed with a short one as well that would have tied the series. Beal went 1-of-9 from 3-point range in Game 2 after hitting 4-of-7 in Game 1 and finished with 14 points on Tuesday. The Wizards controlled the first part of Game 1 before Boston rallied, then controlled most of the game on Tuesday and failed to even the series. Thomas did a lot of his damage in the paint, where Washington Center Marcin Gortat and injured power forward Markieff Morris struggled to defend. Morris suffered a sprained ankle in Game 1 but came out for Game 2 and scored 14 points before fouling out in just 27 minutes. Washington is 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall.

I really think that Washington is the better team in this series, but Thomas continues to work his magic, while the Wizards continue to blow games they have in hand. I’m taking the points in this one even though I think the Wizards will win there. Boston is playing with a lot of confidence right now.
