The Los Angeles Dodgers have no worries about making the postseason, but the St. Louis Cardinals will be grinding out the last two months of the regular season just to get in. The Cardinals dropped their fourth straight game on Tuesday when they fell 3-1 to the Dodgers in the middle game of their three-game set and will try to avoid a sweep on Wednesday afternoon. St. Louis has scored six runs total in their last four games and are now 2.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central after briefly taking the division lead near the end of July. While the Cardinals are just a half-game behind Philadelphia for the second NL Wild Card spot, the Dodgers are on cruise control with the majors best record at 76-40 after winning their fourth straight and seven of eight overall. L.A. will hand the ball to rookie sensation Dustin May for the second time after losing his debut at Dodger Stadium last Friday against San Diego. Justin Turner has three two-hit performances in his last four games, recording four RBI and three runs during that span.

Jack Flaherty is coming off probably his best outing of his young career on Thursday, limiting the Cubs to just a single and two walks with nine strikeouts in seven innings of an 8-0 victory. Flaherty, who attended high school in Los Angeles went 0-3 with a 4.05 ERA in his 12 previous outing. He is 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA in three starts versus the Dodgers.

May was allowed to throw 97 pitches on Friday against the Padres and allowed four runs – three earned – and nine hits with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings. He went 3-0 with a 2.30 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP in five starts at Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to his call-up.
It’s hard not to go against the Dodgers, especially at home and laying just -140 against a struggling Cardinals team. St. Louis is just not scoring any runs and I don’t see that changing against May.
