Yasmani Grandal set the tone early with a three-run homer and the Milwaukee Brewers cruised to an easy 6-1 victory to even their four-game series at a game apiece with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. The Brewers snapped a three-game skid with the victory that coincided with a three-game abscence from slugger Ryan Braun. Milwaukee managed just five runs in the three-game losing streak, but Braun’s two-run blast in Tuesday’s contest helped the Brewers remain 2.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. The New York Mets gained a game on the Phillies, who’s lead in the NL East is still 3.5 games. Braun is now hitting .406 with 14 HR and 43 RBI in 36 career games at Citizens Bank Park. Milwaukee prospect Keston Hiura collected two hits in his major league debut Tuesday, while 1B Jesus Aguilar extended his hitting streak to eight games. The Phillies’ Bryce Harper made two more defensive gems after a game saving catch in Monday’s win, but was seen limping and is reportedly nursing a sore knee. Offensively, Harper now leads the majors with 56 strikeouts including 20 multi-strikeout performances. Philly second baseman Cesar Hernandez has 12 hits (two homers) to go along with seven RBIs and six runs scored in his last nine games. The series finale will be Thursday afternoon at 1:05 ET.
Pitchers: Brewers – Gio Gonzalez (1-0, 1.69 ERA) | Phillies – Jake Arrieta (4-3, 3.78)
Gio Gonzalez will make his fourth start as a member of the Brewers since signing a one-year, $2 million contract, and has looked sharp in his first three. The veteran lefty picked up his first win on Friday while allowing just two hits over 5.2 innings of a 7-0 victory at the Cubs. The Phillies have seen Gonzalez plenty of times when he was a member of the Washington Nationals and has been hit hard in his last three starts at Citizens Bank Park, allowing 12 runs in 15 innings including 12 walks.

Jake Arrieta has been a little shaky in three of his last four starts and served up three home runs in his last outing at Kansas City on Thursday. The Phillies are 1-3 in those four starts with the only win coming in Arrieta’s worst outing of the season, a 12-9 win over Miami. The veteran right has surrendered eight dingers in his last seven starts. He is 8-6 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 17 career meetings with Milwaukee.
Gonzalez has been good, but the Phillies know him all too well and should extend his recent Citizens Bank Park misery in tonight’s game. Arrieta will keep the ball in the park this time around and do enough to help Philadelphia win this one.
