The New York Yankees host the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night in the rubber match of their three-game series, televised live on ESPN. New York snapped Toronto’s season-high three-game winning streak on Tuesday night by bashing five home runs in an 11-5 romp. Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge tied a major league rookie record by mashing 10 home runs in April and joined some lofty company with two more last night. Judge became the third player in franchise history to homer 12 times in the first 25 games of the season – a feat achieved by Alex Rodriguez and Babe Ruth – while New York improved to 10-0 in games in which the rookie homers. Judge joins Eric Davis (1987) as the only players age 25 or younger with 12 homers and 25 RBIs in the first 25 games of a season. Brett Gardner, a Yankee not known for his power, is 8-for-23 with four homers and seven RBIs during a five-game hitting streak. After an extremely slow start to the season with his new team, Yankees DH Matt Holliday is 10-for-24 with two homers and seven RBIs in the last six games. Toronto’s Steve Pearce slammed his first two homers of the season as part of a 4-for-4 night to lift his batting average above .200 for the first time since April 6th, while Devon Travis is 4-for-8 with two doubles and four runs scored in the series. Only Kansas City (8-17) has a worse record than Toronto.
Pitchers: Blue Jays – Marcus Stroman (2-2, 2.97 ERA) | Yankees – CC Sabathia (2-1, 4.34)
Marcus Stroman gets the start tonight and has been solid since a beating he took against the Red Sox a few starts ago. He threw his second complete game of the season in Anaheim on April 23rd before settling for a no-decision despite recording a season-high 10 strikeouts last time out against Tampa Bay. Stroman has allowed two runs or fewer in four of his five starts and walked only seven batters overall. Stroman is 5-2 with a 2.17 ERA in his career against the Yankees.
CC Sabathia allowed three earned runs and 12 hits over his first three starts but has seen his ERA increase by nearly three runs while getting rocked in his last two starts. Sabathia lasted five innings in a loss at Pittsburgh on April 21st, giving up four runs on seven hits, and was hit for seven runs in 5.1 innings by Baltimore in his last outing. Jose Bautista is 5-for-40 with 10 strikeouts against him.

Stroman has been pretty good this year, but he hasn’t faced this new and improved Yankee offense yet. Sabathia’s early season success is a thing of the past already and I’m looking for Toronto to bust out against him. I’m loving the over in this one.
