The Toronto Blue Jays continued their incredible 2nd half run last night with a 9th inning rally to down the Texas Rangers 6-5 and take over sole possession of first place in the American League East. Adrian Beltre’s throwing error in the top of the 9th enabled the winning run to score. Toronto has now won 4 games in a row and 6 of 7 overall. Tonight, David Price takes the mound for the Jays. In four starts with Toronto, he’s 3-0 with an ERA of 1.78 and has 33 K’s in 30 innings. He’ll look to keep that going tonight against a Texas lineup that doesn’t fare well against lefties.
The Rangers broke their 3-game winning streak and in the process dropped another game behind the Astros in the American League West. They now trail Houston by 4.5 games. Closer Shawn Tolleson, who was 25 for 26 this year in save opportunities, walked two batters in the 9th inning last night and couldn’t hold the lead. Colby Lewis will start for Texas tonight and takes his 14-5 record with him. He was won 6 of his last 7 decisions dating back to July 18th. His ERA is a high 4.29, but in his last 3 starts, he has an ERA of 1.71.
The Blue Jays should have no problem winning again tonight. Lewis’ home ERA is 4.96 and Price has just been outstanding since joining Toronto. Look for the Jays to hit the long ball again tonight as Lewis has allowed 21 HR’s this year.
Pick: Blue Jays -1.5 -110
